WANNA HELP US TEST SOME STUFF?
We love that for you…
BREAKING is an online theatre experiment that connects unrehearsed guest performers via a virtual tv news studio.
Our new version of the work opens from Wed 18 for Melbourne Fringe. In the meantime, we’ve got some tinkering to do.
Times
Tech Rehearsal Mon 16th, 2000-2130 (AEST)
Tech Rehearsal Tues 17th, 2000-2130 (AEST)
What It Involves / What You Get Out of It
Volunteers will be tuning in remotely from their own homes, connecting to our "virtual tv news studio." During tech rehearsals, participants will take the role of guest performers as they would in the show - which will involve taking live direction and reading off teleprompters to perform the work.
Technical requirements are below. Volunteers performing in the tech rehearsals may get some sneaky insights into how we’ve built this unique interactive project from the inside. We’ll also owe you an extra favour, which damn - that could come in handy, right?!
Technical Requirements
Use a Laptop (no desktops or tablets)
Chrome browser required
Internet connection strong (check with this test):
min. 10mbps down
min. 5mbps up
Stable connection, no other heavy users on the network
Webcam required
Built in camera preferred
min. 720p
Ideally, use headphones with a built-in microphone (airbuds or airpods are ok - ensure batteries are charged). If you only have headphones without a mic, you can still use them with your laptop’s built-in microphone.
And some not-super-strict suggestions on your space set-up:
Find a place where you will be alone and unlikely to be disturbed.
This space should be indoors, not too small, with no tiles.
You should be seated, with your laptop on a surface in front of you. If possible, try to position your computer at a height so that the camera is at roughly eye level. Placing it on a stack of books or boxes can be helpful.
Check what will be in the background or in the surrounding room, make sure you remove anything you do not wish others to see.
Make sure your face is clearly lit.
Make sure there isn’t too much background noise.
If you’re available and keen, please shoot us an email (trouble@counterpilot.com.au) with your availability.
Read this far? We love you. Really.
